If you feel that these past months (or even longer) of uncertainty have brought you “doldrums in growth”, then perhaps it’s time to do something about it. Okay, that is easier said than done, I agree. But wallowing in the doldrums as so many businesses are doing means, I suggest, losing opportunity for you!
Yes, there’s been a lot of arrows and spears ( or is it now drones!?) headed your way recently with so many still flying about such as tariffs, economy, Brexit, mental health, wars, AI and more. But, in different guises, it has all happened before!
You see, I know from many years of experience (50+ of them) of the cycles of business and how the troughs of those cycles mean that many businesses fall by the wayside forever. And that is often because they (well, especially the leader) allow external geopolitical situations or negative news and assumptions to be their business driver.
This usually manifests itself into thinking that nothing can be done about the trading situation, and that “we have to just hunker down” and hopefully ride it out. Where that thinking leads to is a negativity that quickly cascades throughout the company from the very top to the very bottom. Gloom descends, cutbacks happen and any initiative is lost.
It is really hard to then get everything rolling from such a position.
Growth is key everyone says. And it’s often said without knowing what growth is! This allows “snake-oil” opportunists to push their solutions. And there are plenty of them around at the moment as you’ll know from your spam box. There is no magic Disney Fairy Dust to deliver that growth tomorrow.
What WILL work is to doggedly follow a system – a plan if you like and one that comes from knowledge of things that work in tough and uncertain times.
You’re reading this and now thinking – oh here it comes – aren’t you?? Well yes, I do have that system for you but bide a while as we keep thinking together.
The big problem with so many of these so-called “growth solutions” in your spam box is that they are geared to selling whatever product the writer or video presenter is offering. Those solutions tend to ignore the past or even the current situation in favour of “change will happen tomorrow”. Be truthful you know it will not.
Most change initiatives fail because they ignore the past and try to build on the present which is like trying to build a house on quicksand.
There is an answer for you. It WILL bring you that elusive growth and you WILL lead your business and people to sustainable success. But, like weight-loss (I’ve lost 3 stones over this past year) it won’t and can’t all happen overnight. Sustainable growth, like the weight loss, has to be gradual.
Frustrating? No, because gradual growth makes you stronger than others.
So where am I leading all this you ask?
